Brief Report On The Kenton-On-Sea Programme For 2021 2021 has ended far more positively than its predecessor! As planned, Khaya was able to start the Next Gen programme at the end of February. The usual twice-weekly coaching sessions continued with 20 to 30 children, of which 6 were the last of our older kids who have been with us for 3-5 years. Coaching, except for school holidays, continued until June when Covid again postponed the programme. The 3rd quarter was less effective (stopped and started) up to September and then unfortunately, Khaya broke his leg, and no coaching was done in October and November. We managed to start with our Assessment Programme! One Round Robin was held, and we also registered Coach Khaya and our most senior girl for an Officiating Course to have been presented by Tennis South Africa, but sadly this was cancelled. They are trying to hold it in the first quarter of 2022. This will probably be my final year of running the juniors here. However, I will be meeting with the Director of the Kariega Game Reserve who is responsible for their Outreach initiative. Already Khaya, who has been busy for the last 3 years on establishing his dream Academy, is working with them on netball and soccer and other community initiatives. Whilst Khaya and I worked on cricket (through my Sports Trust) and tennis (through the IC), I would like them to incorporate the cricket and tennis in their project now. I always promised Khaya that one day when his Club became reality, then the cricket and tennis would become his responsibilities as well! (Club KTM is named after the 3 young men from the Township who dreamed up the Academy and put in the first money). This year we aim to do the online workshop for Child Protection, have Khaya and Lucia attend the Officiating Course, run a Round Robin, have a Parents’ Day, a coaching clinic and if possible, take the kids to a match in Port Elizabeth.
