More Vosloorus children play tennis It may have been a cold winters day in Johannesburg, but this did not deter the Vosloorus little ones from playing in the Wilson Red/Orange ball tournament. With the emphasis on “newbees” we were able to give more children the opportunity to experience a mini tournament environment with six taking part, four for the very first time. Despite the cold, the event was again extremely well supported with just over 150 taking part. The initiative shown by Gauteng East Tennis Association in holding mornings such as this, is a huge fillip to the young players in the province. For the Vosloorus children it is a way of introducing them to not only the beginnings of tournament play, but also to have the opportunity of playing against and meeting children from outside of the township. The aim of the morning is for the children to enjoy themselves and have some fun. Results are not important at this stage of the tennis careers but how pleasing it is to record that Boitumelo Jacobs won his section and this at the second time of entering an event. Mathepelo Moloi came second in her second and this was her first tournament with Realeboga Jacobs sixth. There were third and fourth positions for Nonhlanhla Xolo and Siyamthanda Silinga in their section whilst Banele Xolo and Unathi Nkosi ended fourth and sixth in their group. Fun and enjoyment were the key elements of the morning but to see these children achieve the results they did is a major bonus and again we must congratulate coach Michael Lelosa for his continued dedication and commitment to ensuring the children not only enjoy their tennis, but improve as they go along.
