Tshepang awarded scholarship! Two years ago Tshepang arrived in Vosloorus from the Nelspruit region in the eastern part of the country. He quickly adapted to his new home and very quickly came along to the tennis coaching. It was obvious from an early stage that he was more than a keen and useful player. His improvement has been exceptional since arriving and his dedication to the sport has stood him in good stead. He quickly made his mark in tournaments to the extent that earlier this year he was selected to represent Gauteng East in the schools inter provincial. His ability and promise were noticed by Helen Barrett who heads up the tennis arm of the Balderstone Sports Institute. The institute is owned by Michale Balderstone, himself a registered PGA professional, and it was golf that originally started the institute. Tshepang was offered a scholarship to attend which means he has coaching five days a week, and he studies the Cambridge syllabus for his education. This is a tremendous boost for him in both his education and tennis and so far, he has more than acquitted himself to the required standard. He is also one of the five players from Vosloorus who now attend squad training on a Saturday morning. It is the first time that Vosloorus have had a player of the ability to be considered for such a scholarship and is an incentive to the other players who can see what is possible if they apply themselves to both their schooling and their tennis. We wish Tshepang everything of the best and may he be successful in both academic work and his tennis.
