VOSLOORUS NEXT GEN TAKES SHAPE We have come to the time when our two top boys now move out of the junior ranks and into senior tennis. So the hunt is on for our own version of the “next gen.” We have a young boy, Nkosikhona Ubisi who has just turned 14 and looks as though he could be our next most promising player. He started playing tennis at the age of 9 being coached by Michael Lelosa at Vosloorus. He has already represented Gauteng East High Schools at inter provincial tournaments for the past two years. The President of Gauteng East Tennis Association, Ken Smith and the High School team coach, Desire Wilson both speak highly of him. Ken Smith said “he is well liked by all the other team members and is the first to put his hand when help is needed. With the right coaching he could well become a very useful player.” Nkosikhona played in the Gauteng East junior closed tournament and finished a very creditable third and in the recent Soweto junior event was runner up. He currently goes to school in the Vosloorus Township but is looking to see if a scholarship can be obtained to go to one of the High schools in the nearby town. He is entered into the Tennis South Africa tournament next week and in 2020 we plan to accelerate his tournament play in other bigger tournaments. His personality and manner lead us to believe that with the correct handling Nkosikhona could emulate the achievements of Sanele Saul our former top junior. Along with the two 14 year old girls, Kgomotso Santos and Kgomotso Mabote these three will be given the opportunity next year to play higher quality events to aid their tennis development.
