We have come to the time when our two top boys now move out of the junior ranks and into senior tennis. So the hunt is on for our own version of the “next gen.”

We were able to organize a clinic for children in the four Townships in and around Benoni where the IC Rod Laver junior challenge was being held.

The one day tournaments organized by Gauteng East Tennis Association have grown in stature and numbers each time they have been held.

Following the success of the June 1 doubles tournament, Desire Wilson and Gauteng East staged a singles tournament on 22 June which attracted over 150 children of all ages and standards.

In keeping with their aim of organizing fun tournaments, Gauteng East held the second such day this year on the Public Holiday of 1 May. This was the Gauteng East Wilson Doubles played on a round robin basis with play offs at the end to determine final positions.

A feel Good Story... Meet Nosimphiwe and Granny Nono who hail from Kenton-on-Sea near Port Elizabeth. Nosi's mum passed away in 2013 when she was just 9 years old. She and her sister were taken in by her grandmother in Kenton-on-Sea.

A small coastal town on the Sunshine Coast, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa with a population of just over 5,000 people, the new start-up tennis programme has recently trained volunteers to manage the programme and has already coached 25 children to date.
